Riverview Cemetery
3300 N. Market Street, Wilmington, DE
Founded about 1872. The original owners of the nonprofit cemetery were
the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodges No. 1 and No. 34 and the
Knights of Pythias Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, who went bankrupt in
2001 and closed in June 2001. Currently it is being maintained but the
Delaware Board of Corrections thanks to the efforts of state Sen.
Harris B. McDowell III, D-Wilmington North, who apparently persuaded
the state to continue cleanup efforts at the 130-year-old, 87-acre
cemetery with 36,000 graves.
The following is a partial listing of some graves that are located on
the West side of Market Street as transcribed on June 17, 2002 by L.
Paul Morris, Jr. They are in the center near the largest monumental
crypt marked Stoeckle's and near are large family obelisk marked SASSE.
